Letters from an Edwardian Lady tells the story of Ernestine, the editor of a magazine for Girls and Young Ladies. At the start of 1905, she receives a strange letter, addressed to her advice column and, against her better judgement, she answers it.

In 2005, in a moment of distress, Penny writes a letter to the editor of an Edwardian magazine, given to her by her Grandmother. When she receives a reply, there begins a friendship which spans the generations as Ernestine reaches out to a friend she will never meet.

Letters from an Edwardian Lady is the story of an unusual and heartfelt friendship between two women, separated by time but held together by the bonds they form through their letters.

"This time we succeeded, my friend. There was a smell of orchids as I opened the letter. It vanished as soon as I was aware of it but, for just that moment, we shared something other than our letters. I confess, Penelope, I wept. What a silly woman I am! How the female countenance is cajoled by little tears, then has to stay dry-eyed when bigger events take place. I suppose this is how we were meant to be, emotional and loving in all things, but strong when called for duty."

Letters from an Edwardian Lady is the first book in the historical fiction series, Hands Across Time. Telling the story of Ernestine, her family and her friends, the series begins in 1905 and journeys through to the twenty-first century.
